P.Solberg Norway09As the WRC teams are a little light on the ground this year a number of last years names have managed to organise programs getting them bake in to the top flight of competition.

Petter Solberg who tackled rally Norway for the first time with his new team, The Petter Solberg World Rally Team. Using an older spec Citroen Xara Petter promised to drive flat out on his home event.

After the fastest time on the opening super special Petter settled down to work of getting used to the new car and putting up some good times. The only problem through day one was tyre choices but 5th place at the end of the day was a good start.

Day two brought problems for the Xara with the gearbox springing a oil leak and the engine overheating a couple of times. Causing Petter and Phil to drop a place to 6th overall.

Sandell Norway09The last day saw Petter bring his new car and team to 6th overall after nursing the clutch through the last few stages. “I was so worried about the clutch on the last few stages I used the normal gearshift system and lost four or five seconds on every start - so it was close!”

Sweden’s Patrik Sandell’s move to the Red Bull Team and the Super 2000 Skoda paid results in the snow of Norway. With a 44 second gap at the end of the event between Sandell and his nearest Production Car World Rally Championship rival, Eyvind Brynildsen.

The Skoda S2000 proved a good choice with a problem free rally, Sandell said: “We haven’t changed anything on the car, nothing at all. The car has been perfect. The conditions have been a little bit tougher this afternoon; we have had more loose snow on the surface of the road, which has made it easy to get caught out.”

Anderson Norway09Another face from last year was PG Andersson. After Suzuki pulled out of the WRC at the end of last year both PG Andersson and Suzuki team mate Gardemeister were left with out a drive.

Day one started well for Andersson in his Skoda WRC, setting top five times and getting used to the new car. His reward for this was 6th place just 0.1 seconds behind fifth place Petter Solberg.

This was to be Andersson’s last showing on the leader board as the gearbox in the Skoda WRC let go on Saturday just before the time control for SS13. Forcing his retirement from Rally Norway.
