The format of World Rally Championship events will change from next season following the FIA World Council’s decision to end reverse running for the top 15 crews on days two and three.

The scheme was introduced initially to overcome unique road conditions in Western Australia where the event leader was severely hampered by the loose gravel road surface.

From next year running order will be determined by rally position. “Some drivers will play tactics to get the best road position but isn’t that what the sport is all about?” said Rallies Commission president Morrie Chandler.
