Loeb Turkey10After one of the most competitive days of action this season, Sébastien Loeb heads the leaderboard in the Rally of Turkey. Petter Solberg has also moved up the order into second with Mikko Hirvonen in a close third overall.

The second day of the Rally of Turkey was the longest and most demanding of the event with two identical loops of four stages, three of which were a mix of gravel and asphalt. The route also included two runs through the longest stage of the rally - Riva at 27.17 kilometres.

Competition amid the top five crews has been intense throughout the day and overnight leader Sébastien Ogier managed to maintain his advantage until the sixth stage of the day, when he was forced to stop and change a puncture.

The Frenchman lost over three minutes and dropped to fifth overall. Loeb then assumed the lead with Petter Solberg and Mikko Hirvonen also moving up the order into second and third respectively. The trio remained evenly matched and are split by 17.3 seconds overnight. Dani Sordo remains in the fight in fourth position, the Spaniard only a further 5.1 seconds behind.

Ogier maintained fifth for the rest of the afternoon however has little chance to catch the leading pack unless any of the crews hit problems in the final leg. Former Formula One World Champion Kimi Räikkönen has climbed to sixth, over a minute further behind. Jari-Matti Latvala was one of the leading crews to hit problems today, the Finn rolling in the first stage of the day. He lost nine minutes and while he has climbed the leaderboard, he overnights in 12th position.
