Roy JimClark08Milton Keynes driver S D Roy and Kent co-driver Bob Stokoe had a successful weekend as they finished 30th overall in round two of the British Rally Championship (BRC), the Jim Clark International Rally (23 – 25 May).

Roy and Stokoe had a relatively trouble-free run across the 160-mile Scottish Borders-based asphalt event in their different but same spec 1800cc MG ZR car, run by M3 Motorsport, as they finished seventh in Class 2 to claim their first points of the season in the championship.

The opening stage of the rally on Saturday morning proved a tricky one for the crew as they spun on a 90 right corner, losing a small amount of time, before later in the test they spun on a tight hairpin right and lost around five minutes as they were stuck in some long grass but they managed to recover and continue with no more problems throughout the day.

Sunday began well for the pair and they survived two spins in stage 15, in which they picked up some minor damage to the rear beam, to go on to reach the finish in Kelso town square and take their first points of the season in the BRC following their retirement from the opening round last month.

“I’m really pleased with the result and to get some points in the championship,” Calcutta-born Roy said. “It’s been a really good weekend, I’ve enjoyed the rally a lot and with the stages being dry they were good fun.

“The new car went very well and I felt comfortable in it but I’m sure there’s more to come from it. We had very few problems throughout the event apart from the spins we had so that’s really positive.”

It was the first time that Roy competed on the full Jim Clark International Rally after spending two years in the supporting lower-powered BRC Stars 1400 Championship. He took 12 points in the Class 2 drivers’ table whilst Stokoe earned 14 points in the Class 2 co-drivers’ standings.

Roy and Stokoe will next be in action in round three of the BRC, the International Rally Isle of Man on July 17 -19.
