Sunday the 5th of April 2009 saw the seventh running of the Sporting Car Club of Norfolk's, Maclom Watson Spring Rally Stages.
 
Sculthorpe Airfield Near Fakenham provided the venue for the challenging 90+miles over the 8 stages on the fast flowing airfield tarmac & surrounding perimeter lanes.
 
Of the small but extremely high class entry it was Graham Coffey / Ken Bills (Impreza WRC S9) who flew out of the blocks with the fastest time over the 8 mile first stage setting a time some 10 seconds faster than Ray Brammer / Matt Whattam (Impreza WRC) & a further 6 seconds quicker than fellow Impreza peddallers David Turnbull / Peter Gibson (Impreza WRC S11).
 
It looked like being a titanic battle for honours with the 3 Subaru's until Coffey / Bills suffured a puncture on SS2 which lost the crew nearly 5 minutes on the leaders Turnbull / Gibson. Turnbull then found his form with fastest time over the next 5 stages with Brammer / Whattam their closest rivals Impreza getting stuck in 5th gear on ss4 & having to retire.

 
Turnbull / Gibson eventually eased home comfortable victors by a margin of over 5 minutes from Coffey / Bills who charged back up the leader board to finish second. Third went to the local crew of Tony & Emma Hewitt in their Evo 5 a further 2 minutes adrift with Martin & Matthew Hodgson fourth in their ever entertaining Mk 2 Escort. James Gratton-Smith / Thomas Jordan rounding out the top 5 in their Mitsubishi Evo.
