Kerr prepares to tackle Colin McRae Forest Stages PDF Print E-mail

Kerr Merrick09It’s been a remarkable year for junior rally driver Alick Kerr - and there could be more to come yet as he prepares to tackle the Colin McRae Forest Stages.

Kerr posted the fastest stage time on the very first round of the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship back in February, and since stepping up to the Leaker Direct Subaru Impreza the Bothwell driver has gone faster and faster on every event.

The Perth-based McRae is the final round of the Scottish championship, and no matter what happens this coming Saturday Alick (21) and Marykirk co-driver Drew Sturrock (20) are guaranteed an extremely respectable finish in the series standings.

Competitors’ final SRC points are based on their highest six scores from eight outings, and with six strong results already in the bank, Alick and Drew can enjoy the McRae minus some of the pressure hanging over their main rivals.

That doesn’t mean the young crew will be taking it easy as they make their way through the Big County forests, though. Alick has the chance to end the season in the top five in the outright SRC title race if things go well, whereas MSA Rally Academy Member Drew Sturrock is looking to hold on to second spot in the co-drivers’ championship.

Furthermore, with the prize of a fully funded drive on an international rally still at stake for the junior driver judged to have the greatest ability, Kerr and Sturrock will be going all out to demonstrate their case to the judges.

“It’s nice to go into the rally knowing that we’ve already got a good set of scores in hand, but there’s still plenty to push for,” believes foundry engineer Kerr. “I’d really like to finish the Scottish championship in the top five, and I can also help Drew to hold onto his second place.”

“The Hankook SRC Junior award is still up for grabs too, and a strong result will help to strengthen my case,” the Leaker Direct Subaru Impreza driver continues. “Even with punctures and minor problems we’ve still been able to do well, so I hope to be up challenging with the leaders if everything goes to plan.”
