Following two top 5 results so far this year, Lanarkshire junior driver Alick Kerr goes into this weekends Station Garage Granite City Rally looking to maintain his lead in the 2010 Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship standings after 2 rounds.

Kerr, who is partnered by Elgin based navigator Neil Shanks, has spent the 4 weeks since the Border Counties rally ensuring his Kompact Kitchens Rangemaster backed Subaru Impreza is as ready for the challenge of the Aberdeen based event as the driver and navigator are.

The car has been to Carnforth based Subaru specialists TEG Sport and has been fitted with a new turbo, and the team hope that this will cure the lack of power experienced towards the end of the previous event;

 “With a Championship lead to defend we decided that we had to make sure the car was in the best possible condition, and with TEG Sport leading the British Championship who better! In addition to the new turbo, which we knew was due to be replaced, we were able to get some advice for other areas of the car which I’m sure will also really help us ” explained the Bags Online and Opie Oils backed driver.

Last years Granite City was Kerr’s first event in a 4wd car, and to be leading the Scottish Championship just 12 months later shows just how far the Foundry Engineer, who works for former Scottish Rally Champion Jon Burn, has come in a short space of time. Alick will be hoping to continue this progression this weekend, and is targeting a podium result to maintain his championship challenge.
