Nineteen year old Alick Kerr from Lanarkshire has teamed up with new co-driver, eighteen year old Drew Sturrock, from Marykirk, Aberdeenshire. The new partnership will contest the UK Fiesta Sporting Trophy and the Scottish Rally Championship, a total of thirteen rallies across the UK in 2008.
“Drew is one of Scotland’s top young co-drivers and we’re really glad to have him onboard for 2008,” enthused Kerr, “He has over two years experience under his belt already and has co-driven a wide variety of drivers including five times British Champion Jimmy McRae.”
The Leaker Direct backed team’s first outing will be to the John Haugland Rally School in Norway at the beginning of February followed immediately afterwards by the Snowman Rally based in Inverness on 16th February. Kerr won the prize trip to the frozen lakes of Norway with four days of tuition as part of the John Easson Scholarship, named after rally driver John Easson who tragically lost his life in an air accident in 1999.
“The trip to Norway is going to be fantastic and it will be a great opportunity to test the new car prior to the Snowman rally,” explained Kerr, “We’re running a Ford Fiesta ST in both championships this year and Norway will be the first time we’ve used the car in anger.”
The Scottish based rally team will be announcing the details of an exciting new sponsorship deal over the coming weeks. “We’re in the process of finalising support for the 2008 season and have been very lucky to get the backing of Leaker Direct for the fourth year running,” said Kerr, “It’s only through the support of businesses such as Leaker Direct that we have been able to keep up the momentum over the last few years.” In 2007, the team won the Ecosse 205 1.9 Challenge along with a Class win in the Scottish Rally Championship.
