Kerr Swansea08Teenage rally driver Alick Kerr picked up another finish in the ultra-competitive Fiesta Sporting Trophy as he continues to build on a solid season in the one-make rally series.

Kerr (19) and co-driver Drew Sturrock (19) made the long trip down to Wales for the Swansea Bay Clubmans Rally on Saturday, and set some impressive stage times in the Leaker Direct Rangemaster Fiesta ST before a puncture on the final stage sent them down the final standings. Nevertheless, after four of six rounds of the Fiesta season Alick and Drew find themselves in a very respectable position and are gaining confidence in the car with every outing.

Up against many more experienced rivals in the Fiesta series, Bothwell-based Kerr again set his sights on finishing ahead of fellow Scot and season-long sparring partner Stevie Brown, also contesting the Sporting Trophy for the first time in 2008. Alick stopped the clocks just under a second faster than his Aberdeenshire rival on the opening Walters stage, and increased his lead by another second through the second Rhondda run.

The Lanarkshire foundry engineer received a further boost when he discovered he was faster through the second stage than championship frontrunner James Everard. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse just before the start of the third run. “We were waiting to go into stage three when the stage was stopped four cars in front of us and then cancelled, knocking fifteen miles off the rally,” explains Kerr. “So going into the last
