Fifth for Kerr on Speyside Stages PDF Print E-mail

Kerr Speyside09Alick Kerr continued his march towards the front of the Scottish rallying field with another storming drive on Saturday’s Gleaner Oil and Gas Speyside Stages.

The 20 year-old piloted the Leaker Direct Subaru Impreza to fifth place overall and third in class as he cemented his position as one of the front-running drivers in Scotland.

The Bothwell driver also scored a fastest outright time on the third Tauchers Wood stage and stopped the clocks third quickest on the final Whiteash test.

The result greatly enhances Alick and co-driver Drew Sturrock’s standing in the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship, and with two rounds still to run there’s time for them to climb further up the leaderboard as the season draws to a close.

“All in all a very good day with no mechanical dramas and no major errors on my part,” believes Kerr. “I am very encouraged to see that when we have a clean run we’re on the pace of the leading crews, so I’m very much looking forward to the last two rounds of the year.” Alick reckons there is still more pace to come from the Leaker Direct Subaru Impreza, however, and is targeting an even better result next time out. “The Speyside was a great rally for us but there are just a few wee mistakes I’m working on ironing out here and there,” admits the foundry engineer.

“I overshot a couple of corners and ran wide in a few places, but when you’re pushing hard all day these things can happen. I know that I can be on the pace if I don’t make any mistakes, though, so as I get more comfortable with the car I hope I can go even better.”

“We also had a slow puncture to contend with on the longest stage of the day, and some of the tighter, twistier stages aren’t the easiest to drive,” adds co-driver and MSA Rally Academy member Drew Sturrock. “Having said that, everything else was spot-on and we know there is more to come so we are hoping for a top-three finish next time out.”

The next rally for the Alick Kerr Motorsport team will be the Merrick Forest Stages on Saturday 5 September 209. The Merrick is the seventh round of the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship, and Alick Kerr and Drew Sturrock will certainly make the trip south on a high after their first top-five finish together.
