King's Parade at New Brighton Promenade in the Wirral hosted the 2008 running of the Printmatters Promenade Stages Rally.
A closed road event run by Wallasey motor club consisting of 10 stages around the tarmac roads on the promenade.
Rain and dark skies greeted last year’s winner Chris Davis as he led the capacity 90 car entry away in his Darrian T90.
Chasing hard would be the Metros 6R4’s of John Stone, Chris Wise and Peter Stojanov along with the Darrian or Robert Dick and the Focus WRC of Hugh Hunter.
The wet and slippy conditions on the first few stages played in to the hands of the 4WD cars and John Stone’s Metro edged ahead until a problem with his diff forced his retirement.
This Passed the lead position to Chris Wise but as the rain stopped and the strong breeze started to dry the roads the Darrian of Chris Davis came in to its own and was closing fast on the leader.
As the day went on and the roads dried, the causality rate increased, with Davis on a charge even the crowd pleasing Hunter in the Focus WRC could not move Chris Davis from the top spot.
As the skies darkened again only 2 seconds separated the top two in to the last stage, Darrian Vs Metro. But the 6R4 was to strike problems within sight of the finish taking the pressure off the Darrian of Chris Davis and allowing him to collect another win on the Printmatters Promenade Stages Rally.
