Clean sweep at Burns Memorial Rally PDF Print E-mail

Martin Burns08Over the weekend, SWRT test driver Markko Märtin and Robert Reid triumphed on the Richard Burns Memorial Rally in convincing fashion.

Winning each of the eight stages run within the Royal Air Force’s Marham base in Norfolk, UK, the pair took a dominant victory in their Subaru Impreza WRC008.

After rain on Friday night, Saturday morning saw the airfield shrouded in fog. As the air cleared, SWRT gave three auction winners and selected VIPs passenger rides with Markko in the Impreza WRC2008.

The competition was held under clear and breathless skies on the huge ribbons of asphalt that double as the base’s runways.

Martin Burns08Markko was a good friend of Richard Burns, and sitting alongside Burns’ co-driver Robert Reid, the win was a fitting tribute from both men for Britain’s late rallying star and 2001 World Rally Champion with Subaru.

“I said before the event that for me it was more about supporting the cause, but that of course Robert and I would be pushing” said Markko Märtin.

“To win is a great way to pay tribute to Richard and I’m very glad that both Robert and I were part of this event.”
