The first details of the 2009 Mid Wales Stages have been unveiled for the 21 June event that is round four of the Dunlop/Gambia MSA British Historic Rally Championship as well as a round of the Lico Welsh Clubmans Forest Championship, the Brian Dennis Welsh Historic Championship and several ANWCC championships.
In a break with recent tradition, the Newtown and District Automobile Club event will run only on Sunday 21 June, but will cover the same stage mileage as before, with over 50 miles for the historic event and 45 miles for the modern event.
"Keeping the competitive action on one day gives us some cost savings and will help us keep the entry fee as competitive as possible," said clerk of the course Chris Tomley. After scrutineering on Saturday afternoon, there will be a hog roast for competitors on Saturday evening and, after an 8am start, the historic event is scheduled for a 3pm finish on Sunday. "Everything is now in place for the 2009 rally," said Tomley.
The Mid Wales Stages offers competitors the only chance of the year to tackle classic forests used on Wales Rally GB, including Hafren and Myherin. Central servicing will be located at Sweet Lamb, with the rally again based at Coleg Powys in Newtown.
Regulations will be published in due course and more details will be available from the club's website at: newtown-mc.co.uk
