Tobermory01.jpgWith only a few weeks to go until the start of this years Tunnocks Tour of Mull, Clerk of the Course Clive Molyneux is confident everything is in place for another classic event on the unique roads of Mull.

Within the first hour of entry's opening, we had over 60 entries and topped the hundred mark by the end of day 1. Currently we have in the region of 180 prospective competitors which rally secretary Pete Kenyon has the unenviable task of whittling this down to 150. On a positive note (if that isn't!!), if withdrawals go along at the same rate as previous years we fully expect to accommodate everyone who enters.

Some exciting changes are in place for the 2008 event, starting with the new Rally HQ in Tobermory. The brand new Taigh Solais building on the Ledaig Car Park Tobermory will be the centre of activity on Friday for the pre event formalities, it will also be the results office for the duration of the event and host the final control on Sunday morning.

MacKinnon07-02.jpgThe start and finish ramp will be positioned right outside the building, which we believe will create a fantastic spectacle on Friday night start and again at the finish on Sunday. The facilities available here are excellent and will really add another dimension to the event. Our thanks go to the Tobermory Harbour Association for the help in making this available.

The John Easson Award is boosted by generous help from Kumho Tyres who have added to what is already a fantastic award by donating 8 competition tyres to the winner of the award. Our thanks to Kumho and Tyres South Shore for this.

As far as the event goes I think we are almost in a position to say we are ready to go. All the authorisations, permits etc. are either applied for or in place, our main men Ron Cowan (Safety Officer) and Simon Bibby (Chief Marshal) are working hard on allocating Marshals, Radio Operators, Doctors, Rescue & Recovery vehicles over the stages.

This years route on Friday night has certainly generated a great deal of what appears to be positive speculation, I've got to admit as a competitor myself I'd really relish the thought of starting the event on such a fast and demanding stage.

As usual the support from the Island has been fantastic, nothing appears to be to much trouble, we get fantastic support from every area.

Role on 20:24 on the 10/10/08 which hopefully if we gets things right car 1 will be roaring up the Glen.
