The 2nd to the 4th Sept 2008 saw the fourth running ever increasing popular Tour Britannia, a prestigious race & rally tour for historic cars.
The event, basically split into two sections comprises of a Competition and a Regulation category & started from the Imperial War Museum Duxford & then moved to its now regular base of Coombe Abbey near Coventry for the following two days.
This years route took in some of the most famous stately homes and racing circuits in Britain, which included timed special stages at Arbury Hall, Cornbury Park and Cholmondeley Castle and races at Snetterton, Mallory Park, Siverstone and Oulton Park.
Again the vehicles entered stirred the soul of ‘petrolheads’ everywhere with the likes of Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches, AC Cobras and the odd American saloon car thrown in for good measure.
Sean Lockyear / Roy Stephenson (Porsche 911) dominated the Competition category from start to finish to win by 2mins 6.5secs ahead of second placed Chris Chiles / Dave Mountford (AC Cobra 289). John Sheldon / Lesley Stevens took the last place on the podium in their Lotus Elan a further 2mins 24.6secs Adrift in third.
Emma Henchoz / Jeanne Taylor took the honours in the Regularity category in their Volvo P544 with Bob and Ann Linwood (Alfa Romeo Giulia Super) second with Marc and Stefan Vandendijk third in their Lotus Elite.
Andrew McAlpine / Neville Alderson took overall victory in the Tour Britannia honours (which is based on an index of performance) in their Lotus Elite.
