To help get the 2008 Rallye Sunseeker under way the orginisers decided to arrange a celebration of the 21st Anniversary (1987) of the victory of Malcolm Wilson & the late Nigel Harris on, the then, Citroen Winter Rally, round 1 of the National Rally Championship, as Rallye Sunseeker still is today.
Over 30 of these stunning machines took part in demonstration and displays over the two days and were a hit with the many spectators as they showed of round the Somerly Park stage.
Jimmy McRae was reunited with the Prodrive built Metro 6R4 that he last competed in at the RAC Rally in December 1986. Providing demonstration runs along Bournemouth’s seafront promenade at Rallye Sunseeker, on Friday evining.
The car was built and run by Prodrive and competed in ten events in 1986 in Ireland, UK and the Canary Islands, winning the Ulster rally. In its last event, at the RAC Rally, it finished eighth. The rally was the last time Group B rally cars were allowed in the World Rally Championship.
