Former Wold Rally Champion Petter Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills don't expect to have their new Subaru Impreza competitive until the Greek round of the World Rally series in June.
Speaking at the annual charity auction/forum in Welshpool last Saturday (Jan 5th) where £17,650 was raised for the Welsh Air Ambulance service, Solberg said development of the new car was taking longer than expected but he was confident that the Prodrive team were not that far away from having a car which would challenge Citroen and Ford.
Solberg ,World Rally Champion in 2003,welcomed the appointment of Marko Martin as development driver. " There is just not enough time for me to bring the car along. Marko is respected as a very good judge of what is wrong in many areas and his imput will be of enormous benefit to the engineers "
Mills, who organises the event, said the charity event, held at the Theatr Clean had now raised just over £54,000 in five years. An
audience of nearly 300 rally fans were entertained for more than a solid hour by Solberg who returned after the break for a further
insight into the hectic life of top class rally team. The effervescant Howard Davies, who had threatened to retire as compere, was persuaded to continue.
