Ulster: Clash of the Titans PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 24 August 2007
Every rally fan's dream is set to come true on the 2007 Philip White Tyres Ulster International Rally, as it has been confirmed that three Irish tarmac titans will battle for supremacy! Nessie, The Genie and The Magician - Andrew Nesbitt, Eugene Donnelly and Kris Meeke - will go head to head on the fast flowing lanes of counties Armagh and Tyrone in a battle royale that only one man can win& But seeding for the 31st August spectacular indicates that a 'wild card' may just upset the Orchard County apple cart. 18 year old Norwegian sensation Andreas Mikkelsen, already with two tenth places in the World Rally Championship to his credit, is seeded behind current Irish Tarmac Champion Eugene Donnelly at number two, with Dungannon Production World Championship driver Kris Meeke at three and Armagh hero Nesbitt at four& Superquick teenager Mikkelsen is no stranger to Irish tarmac, having proved his pace with third place finishes on both the UAC Easter International and Killarney's Rally of the Lakes, earlier this year. So is the current Irish Tarmac Champion and number one PWT Ulster Rally seed Eugene Donnelly feeling the pressure? "It's certainly an impressive lineup for this year's Ulster," says Donnelly, still getting to grips with his Reid Motorsport S12 Impreza, "but I'm looking forward to the challenge. Kris Meeke is phenomenally quick on tarmac, Mikkelsen is competing at World level and of course Andrew Nesbitt is always very fast on what is, after all, his home event. Let's just say it'll be tight competition and may the best man win!" The starry lineup continues down the field with Eamonn Boland seeded at five, Tim NcNulty at six and four times Lurgan Park winner Kevin Lynch at seven. Armagh City will echo to the rumble of millions of pounds worth of WRC machinery next weekend the 31st August / 1st September, as the Irish Tarmac Championship comes down to the wire. The stakes are high and the adrenalin will be through the roof. If you visit just one motorsport event this year, make sure it's the 2007 Philip White Tyres Ulster International Rally!
