Pre-season Q&A with Petter Solberg
How revved up are you about the 2007 season?
?Last season was a difficult time for all of us, but I feel like we are able to get back on track now. It will be a tough challenge, because we do not exactly know where we are compared to our main rivals, but I know that some things have been improved on the car that we will use in Monte Carlo, Sweden and Norway and that should make us a lot more competitive.?
What are your expectations for the opening events of the season?
?For the first three rallies we really have to push to get some good finishes. It would be really good if we could get in the top three on those events and get a good amount of points ready for Mexico, when the new car comes out. When we get the new car we will try to take things to the next level.?
Are you happy to put 2006 behind you?
?It was the toughest season of my entire career, since I was 18. It is the same with everything: when you are not winning people forget you very quickly. I?m sure everyone feels like that when they are in the kind of position we were in last year. But we have plenty of supporters around the world and this year we can show them that we haven?t given up the fight. I?m sure that with all the hard work everyone has been putting in back at base and the new car we will be able to start to fight for the championship again this year.?
How are you preparing for the switch to BFGoodrich tyres?
?Monte Carlo is always difficult for us, with the snow and ice on the roads, but we tested with BFGoodrich in December and I was very happy with the performance of the tyres on the asphalt. I think we could be much stronger on the asphalt events this season?
How excited are you that the WRC is holding an event in your home country, Norway, for the first time?
?I?m really looking forward to Norway. It will be a massive event and very special for me to have a world championship rally in my home country for the first time. The whole of the country is getting behind the rally and there has been lots of promotion. It?s also good that Portugal and Ireland are on the calendar for this season. I think both rallies will be very interesting.?
