207 Super 2000

In March 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot revealed the exciting Peugeot 207 R CUP Concept Car, which gave clues to a future 207 Motor Sport car, the 207 Super 2000.

The project started on the 16 May 2006, when the 207 Super 2000 fired into life for the first time, under the watchful eyes of Bruno Famin, Technical Director of Peugeot Sport and Bertrand Vallat, Project Manager for the 207 Super 2000, at Peugeot Sport?s base at V?lizy on the outskirts of Paris.

The Peugeot 207 Super 2000 then commenced a comprehensive development programme on two types of surface: loose surface and tarmac. As part of the development programme it has also had two public outings in two rallies: Antibes in France in October and Condroz in Belgium in November 2006.

Several drivers have taken the wheel as part of the 207 Super 2000 development programme: Bryan Bouffier, Gilles Panizzi, Philippe Aragneau and Sebastian Lindohlm.

207 Super 2000

The Peugeot 207 Super 2000 continues Peugeot?s tradition in rallying following on from the 205 T16, 306 Maxi, 206 WRC and the 307 WRC. It is a rally car destined to compete on both loose and tarmac surfaces, and meets the new ?Super 2000? FIA regulations.

The standard 207 production car, under goes a number of modifications to turn it into a genuine competitive competition car.

Increased front & rear track and larger wheel arches

Air extractors
Rear spoiler
Tubular roll cage
Bucket Seats
Specific instrumentation
Hydraulic handbrake
Sequential 6-speed gearbox
2.0 litre engine producing 280 bhp
4 wheel drive transmission system
Automatic locking differentials

Peugeot Sport have used all their experience gained in WRC with regards to the behaviour of different materials, brakes, damper technology, vehicle set up and lastly durability, to develop the 207 Super 2000.

Chassis

The 207 Super 2000 uses a monocoque body with a tubular roll cage consisting of 47 metres of tubing. The rigidity of the 207 Super 2000 body is +5% compared to the 307 WRC and +15% compared to the 206 WRC.

The front and rear suspension consists of McPherson struts with coil springs controlled by adjustable Peugeot damper units.

Engine

The engine is a 2.0 litre normally aspirated petrol engine positioned transversally at the front; it is based on the EW10J4S engine from the Peugeot 206 GTi 180, with a capacity of 1998 cc. It develops a maximum power of 280 bhp at 8500 rpm (Maximum regulated speed set by the FIA)

Transmission
The 207 Super 2000 is four wheel drive and has a controlled sequential 6-speed ?dog clutch? gearbox as required by the regulations. It also has three ?disc? auto locking differentials.

Loose surface or tarmac, the technical specification varies depending on the surface the car is to be driven over.

Front and rear brakes (FIA regulations)

The brake calipers are Brembo 4 piston calipers and are the same for both configurations. Only the diameter of the ventilated front discs change. For the tarmac version they are 355 mm diameter, instead of 300 mm for the loose surface version. The rear brake discs are the same for both versions, 300 mm diameter.

Wheels (FIA regulations)

For loose surfaces, the 207 Super 2000 is fitted with 15?? x 6.5?? diameter aluminium wheels (Michelin ZR 82 and ZL 82 tyres) and for tarmac 18?? x 8?? diameter wheels (Michelin N24 tyres for dry conditions and T04 for wet conditions)

Weight (FIA regulations)

To improve overall balance the loose surface version is 50 kg heavier than the tarmac version, 1150 kg (kerb weight) compared to 1100kg.

Price and availability

Price for the FIA approved tarmac version.....:.....168 000 ?HT

THE SUPER 2000 CHAMPIONSHIP

The Rally Super 2000 championship is composed of cars in group A developed from production models, with a body style which must have been produced in more than 25,000 examples.

The regulations allow volume manufacturers to offer a very competitive car with four-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated 2.0 litre engine with a power output of 280 bhp and a controlled 6-speed sequential gearbox.

The regulations specify specific changes to the production car, in particular wider wings to install McPherson type suspension front and rear, as well as 18? wheels clad with special rally tyres. A maximum width, however, is imposed and all driving assistance systems are prohibited.

The Super 2000 category offers a balance between simplicity, cost and performance, an important factor for private teams, independent international Peugeot importers and international Peugeot subsidiaries. The cars are designed to be campaigned in national championships by private individuals or teams.

A car meeting the Super 2000 regulations can also take part in the World Production Championship alongside vehicles in group N4 (cars resembling production models with four wheel drive and powered by a 2.0 litre turbo charged engine).

THE DIFFERENT CHAMPIONSHIPS THAT THE 207 SUPER 2000 CAN PARTICIPATE IN:

European Championships
National Championships
IRC (Inter-continental Rally Challenge)

The initial Championship in 2006 run by Eurosport was based on the experience acquired from the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship). The concept of the IRC is to create a product for TV which can be inserted in the framework of a national or international sporting event.

Regulations:

For vehicles homologated only for the Super 2000 regulations.
Only the competitors (private and race teams) with a car identified in the name of the constructor and that have accepted the regulations are entitled to be awarded points in the IRC championship.

P-WRC (Production World Rally Championship)

It is a championship supporting the WRC, created in 2002 and destined to succeed the Group N championship. It has been part of a trail as part of the WRC.

Regulations:

For vehicles homologated only for the Super 2000 regulations or the Group N regulations. A technical body will assure that both types of vehicles have equivalent performance levels.

Each driver will choose 6 events, from a total of 8, that make up the championship.
