Mark Jasper and Don Wyhatt took the win by just 7 secs from the similar Metro 6R4 of Tom Morris and Neil Chambers after almost 60 miles of demanding tarmac stages at Mira near Nuneaton.
The Quinton Motor Club once again ran a faultless event on the high speed smooth tarmac stages at Mira. Jasper and Morris took all the fastest stage times between them during there day long battle with Jaspers Paul Bird prepared 6R4 taking the 7 second win on the very last stage.
The weather played its trump card when the heavens opened just as crews were leaving the service area for the start of stage 5.
Those who were caught on slicks dropped a large chunk of time before being able to fit wets for the next stage. The Escort MK2 of Andrew Graham lost over 30 secs in the rain only to retire on the next stage after clipping a hay bale damaging the steering.
George Mackey held third overall for most of the day in his Mitsubishi Evo but reired with one stage to go. This made it a trio of Metro 6R4's on the podium with Ron Aiken slipping into third spot.
The closet battle was for 4th and 5th overall, between the Escort MK2 of Ian Want and the Peugeot 205Gti of Andy Baker, with Want turning a 3 second deficit into a 2 second win on the last stage.
