Scottish Rally ace Stevie Brown is preparing to get his championship hopes back on track this weekend (May 31) on the Severn Valley Rally, round three of the VK Fiesta Sporting Trophy UK series.
The Lesley Davidson Marketing supported team will face the daunting task of travelling the length of the country to Wales. Stevie and co-driver Ian Morrison won the opening round of the series before making a spectacular exit to the second round of the championship last month. The MSA British Rally Academy member rolled out of the event on the last stage, but Stevie says he is hoping to get his season back on track this weekend.
“It’s really important that we finish the remaining four events, as only five from the six events count towards the championship with dropped scores.” Stevie continues, “As it stands with dropped scores we are joint first with Alistair Fisher, so we need to push really hard for the win or to at least finish in the top three.”
The wide fast flowing Welsh roads could however present a new challenge for the Five Mile Garage supported driver. Many of the roads which feature in Britain’s round of the World Rally Championship also feature in this event, where local knowledge may be an important factor explains Stevie. “The rally route is really fast, and the gravel roads are built completely different from Scottish forest roads so we will have to learn the lay of the land quickly. There are also a few quick Welsh guys in the championship, and with their local knowledge they are going to be really hard to beat.”
With any of the VK Fiesta Sporting Trophy Championship crews capable of snatching the rally win, the Nicolson Maps supported crew of Brown and Morrison will have to give it their all, in a bid to take their second victory of the season.
